DC Manufacturing Insights is looking for a RESEARCH DIRECTOR. The company assists business executives and IT professionals make more effective technology-related decisions by providing compelling fact-based research and consultancy services. Our highly experienced, regionally-based analysts constantly examine the current and future issues affecting institutions in the manufacturing community. End-users, technology vendors and service providers make extensive use of our research to help shape their strategies in order to successfully adapt to the evolving competitive landscape. Manufacturing Insights is an integral part of IDC.
Working location could be one out of the below indicated cities: London- UK, Munich-Germany, Milan-Italy, Madrid,-Spain, Paris-France

The candidate will lead IDC Manufacturing Insights business in Europe, and in addition the global lead of the Operations Technology Strategies advisory service.
The role of the Research Director is truly multi-faceted.
It involves producing regular insightful content for a dedicated subscription service on European Strategies (following a defined agenda and publication schedule); driving and delivering custom research and consultancy engagements, which are performed on behalf of a variety of clients and have an equally varied set of deliverables.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing a small team, driving business development, responding to client enquiries; collaborating with colleagues in other business units on shared research publications; coordinating primary research programmes; supporting Sales & Marketing campaigns in pursuit of new business opportunities; and public speaking engagements & media interviews to help raise the profile of IDC Manufacturing Insights through the demonstration of genuine thought-leadership.

The position calls for a highly motivated individual who possesses outstanding writing, presentation, client interaction and business development skills.
These capabilities will ideally have been developed over the past 7 to 10 years in a recognised analyst role concentrating on the applied use of technology in the Manufacturing industry. However, applicants with backgrounds in IT vendors or Manufacturing organisations would also be welcome.
The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate a deep-seated understanding of the current and future business challenges impacting on the manufacturing sectors, and the enabling role played by technology to directly address these issues.
This knowledge will have been gained through the ongoing analysis of industry developments, and supplemented by a carefully cultivated network of contacts. Familiarity with IT issues relevant to Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, Product Lifecycle, IT strategies, is an essential pre-requisite.

Education to degree standard and fluency in written and oral English is required, and fluency in a second European language would be advantageous.

The role will involve some travel, predominately in Europe but occasionally to other regions.

In addition to a competitive remuneration package, IDC offers the chance to join a research team in the industry's foremost provider of market intelligence, providing expert advice and knowledge to major institutions and organisations in Europe.

The selection process will take place in several phases, starting with an initial telephone-based discussion before progressing to a first formal interview at IDC's offices in Chiswick- London. At this stage candidates will be required to submit an example of analytical writing, based on a topic provided.
A second formal interview will complete the process, during which candidates will demonstrate their presentation skills.
